Our Beliefs
St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church accepts the following statements concerning
fundamental biblical truths.
God
That we believe in one holy and true God, eternally living in three equal persons
as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All things were made by Him, and without Him
was not anything made that was made. This beginning act demonstrated God’s
divinity, wisdom, and power. Through God’s sovereignty and authority He
continues to sustain the handiwork of His creation, to fulfill His redemptive
purpose.
Jesus Christ
That Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the son of Man, was born miraculously of
the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life. That He came into the world to save men
from the guilt and condemnation of sin, offering His blood as an atonement and
making it available to all who exercise faith in Him, His bodily resurrection from
the dead, His exaltation to the right hand of God. That His divinity is proven from
His titles, His attributes, and His works.
The Bible
That the Bible, Holy Scriptures, both Old and New Testament were written by
holy men inspired by the Holy Spirit and are God’s revealed word to man. God’s
words are sufficient infallible rule and guide to salvation and all Christian worship
and service. That scripture teaches there is one and only one true living God,
who is self-existent, and eternal, the Creator of heaven and earth and the
Redeemer of mankind.
The Holy Spirit
That the scriptures ascribes to the Holy Spirit the acts and attributes of an
intelligent being. The Holy Spirit guides, knows, moves, gives information,
commands, forbids, sends forth, reproves, as the instrumental segment of the
God Head in liberal dispersion of spiritual gifts, and can be sinned against.
Moreover, that the Holy Spirit guides believers in their revelatory understanding
and application of scripture to life and living.
Baptism
That Baptism by immersion shall be observed as commanded in the Scriptures
by all who have repented of their sins and have believed on the Lord Jesus
Christ to the saving of their souls and who give clear evidence of their salvation.
That baptism is an outward expression of an inward revelation to a commitment
of personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Salvation
That Salvation is by grace through faith, is a free gift, and wholly without human
works. That Salvation is an inclusive word, which gathers into itself all the
redemptive acts and processes of justification, regeneration, and sanctification.
Communion
That Communion/the Lord’s Supper is a memorial of the covenant made with
God through the Blood of Christ. That this memorial is a continuation of the
Passover Feast, which God commanded His covenant people to observe. In
remembrance of Him, we regularly observe the symbolic act of consuming bread
and wine as the body and blood of Christ, to remember our Savior, who
sacrificed His Life for the sins of the world.
The Five-Fold Ministry
That the church is to be taught and led by the apostles, prophets, evangelists,
pastors, and teachers for the purpose of every believer to see and exercise their
priestly and kingly ministry as outlined in scripture. That the Five-Fold Ministry is
to teach and train people to do the work of ministry with maturity and unity in
mind.
